The Rebuild Starts

Cleaning Process

New Front U-Bolts 9/16" - old 7/16"

Be sure this dimple is toward the front of the A-arm. I got lucky & installed them correctly before realizing it!

Low A-arm installed

Holes needed to be enlarged for the new bolts. It's tight to the frame but they fit fine.

  1. Nice stuff and nice work! I wish I'd installed new U bolts when I had it apart. Jay

  2. Nice job on the CPP spindle and spring install. Did you do a drop spindle or factory height?

  3. Jay - I almost went with the stock U bolts even though I had new bolts. When i realized the holes had to b drilled, I was a little uneasy about it. Someone replied to my question of concern on Stovebolt, so I borrowed a bigger drill and completed the task - worked out good.

I went with factory height. Looking for a smooth ride and ability to haul materials.

    Thanks for you comments.

  4. Thanks for linking my page on your banner! I'm speechless!
That rear end rebuild turned out NICE! I used the same puller and driver set that you used. You mentioned the e-brake. Will you convert it to the 1966 style e-brake setup? Part of the decision may be related to what tranny you choose. 700R4 maybe or 5 speed?

  6. I haven't decided on the e-brake at the moment. I still need to install the rear brakes but I think I'm moving next to the engine and tranny. I already have a 700R4 tranny which was installed when I bought the truck. From there, I will put in the rear mounted gas tank and plumb it up to the fuel pump.

I thought your site would be a great add to my links. You have lots of good information there plus pictures to back up the information. I will be adding comments to support my pics as I go. I'm not much of a author. :)

  7. On the subject of rear tanks, what tank did you decide on? I like the way the Ford Falcon tank fits and it doesn't hang down low.. Many folks chose a Blazer tank. What are your plans?
